The Arts Explode in November on Florida’s Paradise Coast during Celebrate the Arts Month
Naples, Fla. (October 9, 2009) – This November, the Florida’s Paradise Coast - Naples, Marco Island and the Everglades, explodes with an arts and cultural extravaganza during the 4th annual Celebrate the Arts Month showcasing more than 125 activities - including the 1st Annual Naples International Film Festival, dance and musical performances, theatre and more. The month-long arts celebration kicks into high gear November 5-8 with the 1st Annual Naples International Film Festival featuring the finest films, shorts, and documentaries from around the world, with a special focus on Southwest Florida’s filmmakers.
The Naples Botanical Garden follows suit with a grand opening on November 14-15 of a world-class tropical garden paradise showcasing cultivated gardens of Brazil, the Caribbean and a hands-on interactive Children’s Garden. The tropical garden includes 90 acres of beautifully restored natural Florida habitat. Named “Gardens with Latitude” the Brazilian and Caribbean gardens all represent the plants and cultures of regions between 26 degrees north and south, which is also Naples, Florida’s location.
The Paradise Coast area proudly displays a passion for its artistic community every month of the year, not just November. This holiday season, The Philharmonic Center for the Arts brings the finest performances such as George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker performed by the Naples Philharmonic Orchestra and Miami City Ballet on November 28 and 29; the Holiday Pops from December 18-20; and Chicago, Broadway’s razzle-dazzle smash from December 26-28.
The Naples Players, recognized as one of the top community theater groups in the country, perform at downtown Naples’ Sudgen Theatre. Visitors will experience a captivating but light-hearted performance during Crimes of the Heart from November 25 – December 19.
Third Street South in Naples is a thriving art center and major source for collectors. The area includes Gallery Row, a collection of distinctive art galleries which includes everything from well-known contemporary, modern, and 19th century paintings to sculptures, oil, watercolor, lithographs, prints and posters. Other galleries in downtown Naples exhibit pottery, blown glass, Native American art, and much more.
Known as a world-renowned arts and cultural community, the Paradise Coast is a hub for the visual arts. The area is home to 500 resident artists and musicians, 100-plus galleries and artist studios and 37 arts and cultural organizations. In 2005, Naples was named the #1 Small Art Town in America by author and art critic John Villani, and one of the “Top 25 Cities for Art” in the June 2008 issue of American Style Magazine.
Celebrate the Arts Month is the creation of the United Arts Council. The United Arts Council is designated by the state of Florida as the official local arts agency for Collier County, Florida. The non-profit organization is responsible for promoting arts and culture in the area, and coordinates a consolidated calendar of arts and cultural events for their Web site at www.uaccollier.com.
