WHAT: 1.) Press Conference on Status of Tourism Industry in Collier County. Jack Wert, tourism executive director, will discuss first quarter visitation for 2009; the impacts of the special “in-season” leisure marketing campaign; and the outlook for Summer 2009. 11:00 – 11:30 a.m.

2.) The annual Paradise Coast Tourism Star Awards The event honors the true heroes of Collier County’s hospitality industry, the dedicated employees who are the true treasures of the business, excelling in guest service and satisfaction. Noon – 2:00 pm. The luncheon is sold out. The press is welcome to cover the event but there are no spaces available for lunch. • Photography of the winners will be available for post-event coverage.

WHY: Each year during National Tourism Week, the Naples, Marco Island, Everglades Convention and Visitors Bureau provides education for local residents on the value of tourism, and holds an important awards event recognizing the true treasures of our area’s tourism industry, the employees who make the guest experience special and memorable. The bureau also holds a press conference to update the local media on the state of the tourism industry in Collier County.

WHO: Naples, Marco Island, Everglades Convention and Visitors Bureau. The Naples, Marco Island, Everglades Convention and Visitors Bureau is the official destination marketing organization for Collier County, funded entirely by the Collier County Tourist Development Tax, which also pays for beach renourishment and coastal projects, County museums, and grants to area cultural organizations and special events.
